Strategies Public Relations Wins PRSA-NJ Pyramid Award for
Childhood Obesity Program
NEWARK, N.J. (June 10, 2005) – Winning Strategies Public Relations (WSPR), one of America's fastest growing public
relations agencies, won a 2005 Pyramid Award from the New Jersey Chapter of Public Relations
Society of America (PRSA) for its development of a public relations campaign for Horizon Blue
Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) and Rutgers University's (Rutgers) "Shape It Up,"
an educational program to combat childhood obesity.
The 15th Annual Awards banquet took place on June 8, 2005, at the Highlawn Pavilion in West Orange, New Jersey.
"We are thrilled at being recognized for developing and managing this childhood obesity public
relations campaign for Horizon and Rutgers," said Jim McQueeny, chairman of WSPR. "Educating
our children early about the risks associated with obesity helps lay the groundwork for healthy
adult eating habits."
With nearly 30 percent of children between the ages of six and 11 at risk or already overweight
in the United States, WSPR developed a public awareness and public relations campaign for "Shape It Up,"
planning a launch event and securing ongoing media interest about obesity in elementary schools in New Jersey.
The campaign won an award in the PRSA-NJ Governmental Affairs (public awareness) category.
PRSA is a leading public relations industry association.
WSPR is a member of the Winning Strategies Circle of Companies (Winning Strategies).
The agency offers a range of expertise such as strategic issues counsel, media relations,
corporate positioning, crisis management, media training, issues management and public affairs.
PRWeek's 2004 Annual Survey of independently-owned
public relations agencies named WSPR as the second-fastest-growing
in the United States last year, climbing from 99th largest
in 2002 to 28th in 2003. It ranked as the largest such agency
in New Jersey.
With offices in Newark, Princeton, Trenton and Washington, D.C., Winning Strategies provides advertising, public
relations, marketing, interactive and government affairs services.
