Chairman
Jim McQueeny has built a varied and extensive career in journalism,
government service, communications and marketing. Before taking
the helm of Winning Strategies, Mr. McQueeny served as chief
of staff and spokesman for United States Senator Frank Lautenberg
and in the Carter-Mondale 1980 Presidential campaign. He was
also a communications director of the New Jersey General Assembly;
a White House Bureau Chief and reporter for the Newark-based
The Star-Ledger; and as an on-air correspondent for
a New York City television station. He also shared in the
2005 Pulitzer Prize award to The Star-Ledger with
his lead opinion editorial (op-ed) analyzing former New Jersey
Governor James E. McGreevey's resignation. Mr. McQueeny serves
as a juror for the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences
Emmy Awards.
Winning Strategies began as the regional arm of advertising, public relations and marketing firm, McQueeny Davis Kohm & Partners (MDK). Under Mr. McQueeny's ownership, MDK grew from $7 million to nearly $50 million in annualized billings. In 1996, Mr. McQueeny sold his MDK holdings to take full ownership of Winning Strategies.
Winning Strategies grew rapidly, advising corporations in many industries on their relations with government, the media and the public. When working with companies in telecommunications, energy, health care and transportation, Winning Strategies has focused on regulation initiatives, public education and competitive repositioning in the marketplace.
Mr. McQueeny is particularly proud of his work with America's Promise, the national, youth-mentoring organization founded by Secretary of State Colin Powell and his wife, Alma. Mr. McQueeny served as a primary communications consultant to Secretary Powell, assisting in the formation of the organization and the series of national and regional summits that launched it. He served on the organization's media advisory board.
Mr. McQueeny often appears as a guest expert and issues analyst
on well-known news and issues programs on television and radio.
These programs include NBC's "Today" show, ABC's "Good Morning
America," "FOX News," CBS's "Evening News" and CBS's "Good
Morning." He has contributed articles to The New York
Times, the Washington Post, Newsday
and others. Mr. McQueeny is a political and public affairs
commentator and co-host for a weekly, issues-discussion program
on the News 12 network in the New York/New Jersey television
market.
Mr. McQueeny was described by the New Jersey State Commission
as the "dean of New Jersey's political commentators." He contributes
a monthly column on New Jersey politics for the league's magazine,
New Jersey Municipalities, and is a member of the
editorial board of contributors for a leading business news
publication, NJBIZ. Mr. McQueeny has also taught media and
communications at Rutgers University.
Winning Strategies' accomplishments, whether on behalf of corporations or nonprofit organizations, has resulted in awards and recognition from national environmental, public relations industry and service organizations. The firm has also won several television production awards. The American Marketing Association has selected Winning Strategies for several EFFIE awards, honoring effective national marketing campaigns.
Mr. McQueeny received "The Good Guy Award" from the New Jersey Women's Political Caucus in 2000.
Mr. McQueeny is married to Mary Amoroso, the host of a family issues program on the Comcast cable television network and a former reporter and anchor for network-affiliated television stations in New York City and Washington, D.C. The couple has four children.
